Our Board Certified Nurse Practitioners in Psychiatry monitor medications includes monitoring, reconciling medications, and ensuring patients get the desired outcomes. It requires a thorough review of prescribed drugs and their possible side effects to create treatment plans and monitor their safety and efficacy.
Our providers use evidence-based research, practice guidelines and clinical judgement in choosing medications. We review the goal of treatment with the medication while understanding the importance of psychotherapy for best efficacy. We know that medication management or psychotherapy alone is not as effective as the two combined.
Medication Safety is one of the Bass Wellness Centers top priorities. We utilize New York State and federal databases to meet compliance and obtain the highest standards for prescribing medications.
Medication management in psychiatry is important for two reasons. The first reason is that medication can help to treat the symptoms of mental illness. The second reason is that medication can help to prevent relapse.
Some people with mental illness require medication in order to be stabilized. However, not everyone needs to take the same type of medication. Psychiatrists work with patients to find the right medication and dosage for them.
Once a patient is stabilized, it is important to continue taking their medication as prescribed. This helps to prevent relapse and keeps the patient healthy. If a patient stops taking their medication, they may experience a return of their symptoms.

The Drug Enforcement Administration received a record 38,000 comments on its proposed telemedicine rules. We take those comments seriously and are considering them carefully. We recognize the importance of telemedicine in providing Americans with access to needed medications, and we have decided to extend the current flexibilities while we work to find a way forward to give Americans that access with appropriate safeguards.
For this reason, last week, DEA, in concert with the Department of Health and Human Services, submitted a draft Temporary Rule to the Office of Management and Budget entitled “Temporary Extension of COVID-19 Telemedicine Flexibilities for Prescription of Controlled Medications.” Further details about the rule will become public after its full publication in the Federal Register.
